Context

Apex Training & Nutrition is run by a Navy Special Warfare veteran specializing in performance training for individuals preparing for military, law enforcement, and first responder careers.

Following COVID-19, the business shut down and its previous website was taken offline. Rebuilding the digital presence was critical, not just for visibility, but for re-establishing credibility and generating new client leads.

Problem

Without a structured digital presence, potential clients had no clear way to understand the trainer’s expertise, services, or how to get started.

Additionally, much of the information in the fitness and tactical training space is often fragmented or overly complex, creating friction for users trying to learn or take action.

Constraints

The experience needed to remain minimal and highly focused to reflect the client’s brand, while still communicating a large amount of information effectively.

Users ranged from highly motivated recruits to beginners, requiring the interface to be immediately understandable without overwhelming them.

Approach

I custom-developed this responsive site from scratch in VS Code using HTML5 and CSS3 to ensure high performance and a clean visual hierarchy. By integrating JavaScript for interactive elements, I created a frictionless user experience that re-establishes the client’s authority and optimizes the lead-generation process.

Key Decisions

Trust-first hierarchy

Positioned military background and expertise early to immediately establish credibility.

Minimal but intentional layout

Avoided over-designing the interface, allowing content and messaging to carry the experience.

Educational content integration

Introduced a dedicated article section to provide accessible health and training insights, reinforcing authority and long-term engagement.

Balancing simplicity vs depth

The challenge was maintaining a clean interface while still offering enough information to build trust and support decision-making.

Outcome

The final website successfully re-established Apex Training & Nutrition’s digital presence, creating a clear and credible platform for client acquisition.

By combining structured UX with a minimal visual approach, the experience improves clarity, builds trust, and encourages action without overwhelming the user.

Reflection

This project reinforced the importance of restraint in design. Rather than adding more elements, the focus was on removing friction and presenting information in the clearest possible way.
